YUMMY DIY antiseptic
Updated: Oct 29
Since I haven’t found an antiseptic I liked (most contained artificial fragrances, were in a plastic packaging or just didn’t smell the way I liked), I made one myself. I used bergamot and grapefruit essential oils (citrus oils may cause sun sensitivity, so I’ll use something else as soon as it’s sunny in my city).
• 35 ml of rubbing (isopropyl) alcohol (for an antiseptic no less than 70% and no more than 80% is recommended)
• 3-5 drops of essential oils (optional)
• 2.5 - 5 ml ( ½ or a teaspoon) of glycerin
• 10-12 ml of distilled water (ideally, I used the water I drink)
I would prefer to use ethanol in my antiseptic, cause it normally has less toxins and its production is more environmentally friendly. Although, isopropyl has its benefits. For one, it evaporates faster and is less drying.
P.S. I avoid using essential oils when I’m around pets/children/pregnant women and I don’t use them excessively in general.
